A mesothelioma diagnosis can lead to quite a bit of uncertainty for Oregon and Washington residents. For starters, there are the obvious health concerns and the fact that this type of diagnosis is usually terminal. But, there are other concerns for anyone who is facing this type of situation. Not least of which is their financial concerns.
Medical treatment in America is not cheap, no matter what type of health condition you are addressing. But, cancer and mesothelioma treatment can be especially costly for a household. When the condition progresses to the point where an individual can no longer go to work, a household’s finances may hit the breaking point. Fortunately, many people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma could qualify for Social Security Disability benefits when they are no longer able to work due to the disease.
And, according to a recent report, even one particularly rare form of mesothelioma – known as “pericardial mesothelioma” – is now on the list of disabilities that could entitle someone with the condition to a fast approval of SSD benefits. This is known as a “compassionate allowance,” which recognizes the fast-acting and, oftentimes, fatal nature of these disabilities and health conditions.
