If there is one thing that we can all agree on here in the U.S., it is that our veterans should be honored and protected. Indeed, we have an entire national holiday devoted to honoring our veterans. And, at Bergman Oslund Udo Little, we go a step further and help veteran mesothelioma victims. Veterans and their families courageously face a new battle with cancer, and we help them carry that burden.
What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma (also known generally as, pleural mesothelioma) is a lascivious and notorious cancer that is almost exclusively caused by asbestos exposure. This form of cancer causes tumors in the lungs’ pleural lining, and sometimes, that cancer damages other thin membranes in the heart, testes and abdomen. Causes
We can help veterans trace their asbestos exposure from their military service. We have selected experts that can determine when and where clients were exposed. Indeed, we developed a database with U.S. Navy ships and the manufacturers of asbestos-laden products that were on these ships. It is this type of documentation that is needed to get the U.S. government and other responsible parties to pay what is owed.
What to do next?
When a veteran receives a diagnosis of mesothelioma, the first thing they should do is research their medical options. In Seattle, we have top-notch medical care, but there are plenty of options throughout the U.S. The key is early detection and treatment. The second thing to do is get quality legal counsel, like our firm. We help our clients get all of the compensation they qualify for, including from one’s branch, like the U.S. Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Marine Corps and Air Force.
Quality legal counsel
A huge part of what our firm does for our veteran mesothelioma clients is determine benefit eligibility from multiple federal agencies. At Bergman Oslund Udo Little, we have the experience needed to navigate the detailed process for applying for these benefits, along with general benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
